make a wish.

I'm a big believer in dreaming big.  Whether you're just starting out in creative business or have been working at it for years, there is always room for dreaming about what lies ahead.

So go ahead...

make a wish.

If you put practicality aside and dream about what you would really love to have happen in your life and business, what are the things you really wish for?  Think big.  Now bigger.  In your heart of hearts, what are the desires that are so deep you may have never even mentioned to anyone?

Part of putting your whole heat into your business is to explore all that's in your heart.  Spend some time dreaming, and then write it down... maybe it will come out as a list, or maybe a dreamy  narrative.  You don't even have to show it to anyone, but it's pretty fun when you do!  It is important to allow yourself to dream.  When you dream, you open yourself up to possibility.  While it's important to learn to be content and live fully in the present, it's also good for the soul to dream big.  It keeps us going and motivates us to work wholeheartedly towards something greater.

I'll share mine.  It's a bit lofty, but anything is possible, right?

I actually have a couple.  The first is to have a place that is part shop (think gift shop of handmade items and art from local artists, plus some antiques/ vintage) and part workshop.  A gathering place for creatives to come together, work on their craft, learn new skills and celebrate the gifts we've been given.  I picture an industrial/ cozy space.  Lots of table space to create, as well as cozy couches for connecting.

My super big dream is to have a house with lots of space for the whole family plus friends to gather, on a property with room to roam and play... with a big barn or building to use as a workshop and place to host creative retreats.  There is a place we pass often, not far from where we live now, which would be perfect.  At this particular place, I even envision a pumpkin patch and Christmas tree farm.  I've never been to this place, but I drive by it all the time.  I dream of the barn being used for a workshop/ gathering place as mentioned, and also being used as a venue for events like parties and weddings.

A girl can dream.  And really, if my dream happens to align with God's purpose, then who knows? I've shared my dream for a place like the one we pass often with my family.  Now when we drive by, we look and often stretch out a hand toward it and say, "in Jesus' name!"  I pray about my dreams all the time.  I surrender them and I ask that God would put His dream in my heart.  It's possible, of course, that His purpose for me might look completely different from what I hope for. But I pray that as I seek Him and surrender to Him, asking Him to guide me, He will steer my desires in the direction of His perfect plan.

I have two thoughts on dreams aligning with God's will.  The first comes from Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

I've heard different schools of thought on this verse.  Some say it's cause and effect:  do good, get good.  But I believe it's more personal than that.  When we seek the Lord and have a relationship with Him, we become so in love with Him that we choose to delight in Him.  When that is our focus, our desires are shaped by that love.  He gives us the desires of our heart, meaning He places those desires there out of a love relationship.

The second verse is Micah 6:8

He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?  To live justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

When I was a senior in Bible college, my roommates and I were so stressed out in the months leading up to graduation.  We thought we should have a perfectly laid out plan that was in line with God's will for our lives.  I remember reading Micah 6:8 and it was like a light was switched on and all of a sudden, I felt such freedom.  When we live justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God, we are doing all He desires of us.  As we walk humbly with Him, we naturally take steps on His path for us.

So make a wish.  Dream big dreams.  Live justly.  Love mercy.  Walk humbly with God.  As you do, He will direct your path.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight.
